Beach House Rules
Founded on the beach experience, Beach Club Santa Monica is a social club where courtesy to members and guests is a priority. Club members abide by and support the rules of the Annenberg Community Beach House, as well as City and County regulations for the beach.
Private portable nets may be erected as long as guy wires and anchors are clearly marked and they are positioned in an area that does not obstruct normal beach traffic, lifeguard emergency access ways or existing volleyball courts. In order to ensure safety, it is important that all participants use proper form during their workouts.
Unsporting conduct is prohibited, including, but not limited to, aggressive, intimidating, abusive or threatening actions or language; profanity; destruction of property; fighting, etc.
Clothing must be modest, appropriate for a beach setting and in good taste. This includes, but is not limited to: torn jeans; T-shirts that are inappropriate or offensive in the judgment of staff; revealing and/or exposing tops and bottoms; exposed midriffs; and excessively revealing hats (except for men’s dress hats).
Private Beach Access
In theory, every beach in the United States is technically open to the public up to the high tide line. But figuring out exactly where the limit lies is complicated by antiquated laws and modern restrictions that vary by state—not to mention the efforts of private property owners who are trying to scare away people from their shoreline.
In some cases, homeowners put up illegitimate “Private Property” signs in the sand, or place unauthorized No Parking signs in nearby lots. In others, like the gated community in Malibu that calls itself the Ebony Beach Club, homeowners have constructed questionably legal barriers that make it nearly impossible to reach any part of the beach without trespassing.
For those who would rather avoid the crowds of a fully public beach, a resort with its own private beach is a great option. Parking
The hotel is located in one of LA’s most walkable cities. Park your car with complimentary valet and stroll next door to Third Street Promenade or two blocks to The Santa Monica Pier. If you prefer to take public transportation, it’s just a short walk or ride away from Big Blue Bus stops.
During off-peak times (spring, fall and winter), you’ll find smaller crowds, more parking availability and mild temperatures. Popular surf spots include Ocean Avenue and Montana Avenue, and volleyball courts are scattered north and south of the pier. The original Muscle Beach — not the weightlifting kind like in Venice, but the place where beach volleyball was first played — features parallel bars, rings and swings for kids and adults.
The Coastal Commission will be hearing a proposal to demolish Downtown Parking Structure 3. A new affordable housing project is planned for the site after demolition. The city’s parking experts say the demand to park in PS3 does not exceed demand at nearby Parking Lots 1, 2, and 8, so the demolition should not significantly impact existing parking availability.
Food & Drink
Whether it’s a cocktail at the bar or a family meal at the communal table, Coast serves a menu that can’t be beat. The restaurant has a waterfront cafe feel to it and is popular for brunch and lunch. Try unique dishes like the burrata caprese omelette or jidori chicken breast tacos.
