Wellness in Los Angeles for a Relaxing Day

Students who feel supported by their schools and community are more likely to be academically successful, researchers have found. That’s why many LAUSD Wellness Centers have expanded their services to include mental health care, vaccines, birth control and STI testing.

Getting regular physical activity is important, and for some employees, that can mean hitting the gym. But a gym membership comes with costs.

The Wellness Kitchen

The Wellness in Los Angeles is a space where guests can learn how to create delicious, healthy meals from scratch. The classes are designed for both experienced and novice cooks. The recipes feature fresh, local ingredients that are easy to find and affordable. The kitchen also features a buffet lunch after each class.

The kitchen is a part of the South LA Center for Healthy Communities, a food hub that increases access to nutritious foods and empowers community members to make healthier choices through education and advocacy. The center houses South LA’s 1st organic produce market and a commercial kitchen for community use. It also includes the CSU’s headquarters and a garden.

Forget gimmicky diets and unsatisfying juice cleanses—The Wellness Kitchen offers wholesome, flavorful recipes that will change the way you eat. Complete with step-by-step instructions and easy-to-find ingredients, this cookbook will teach you how to cook delicious and nutritious meals your whole family will love.

As people become more concerned about the health of their food, they want a kitchen that can showcase and protect it. This trend is leading to fewer bulky appliances and more open shelving to allow the display of fresh produce. Consumers are also looking for refrigeration options with varied temperatures and humidities, multiple compartments for optimal preservation, and concealed compressors that reduce noise pollution.

Wanderlust Hollywood

The producers of the world’s largest yoga lifestyle events have opened a one-stop wellness destination in Hollywood. Taking over cult-favorite studio Golden Bridge, the massive community center offers expertly led yoga and meditation classes, retail, a full-service organic and local cafe and special programming and membership.

The top floor makes up the main yoga and meditation studio, with a roster of seasoned instructors and an array of classes for all levels. Try a Wanderlust signature like The Fixx, a mashup of asana and pranayama set to a carefully curated soundtrack; or Soulscape, an all-level integration of music and yoga.

The Wellness Kitchen, meanwhile, offers hands-on cooking classes taught by registered dieticians that will teach you how to create healthy and easy meals at home (23-dollar drop-in, $105 five-class card, $169 monthly unlimited). The lab is a space for DIY workshops with topics ranging from self-love to detoxing, and the library, a members-only lounge, rounds out the offerings.

Sweatheory

Sweatheory is the first all-in-one health, infrared sauna and fitness studio designed with full body wellness in mind. From their unique FAR infrared yoga and fitness classes to their Vitamin IVs, this wellness center has everything you need to get back to your best self.

The founder, Barbara, has spent the last 30 years perfecting the art of the destination spa and curated wellness experience. When she discovered Georgia’s stunning natural beauty, she was inspired to bring her Los Angeles-based brand to the state, creating a healing sanctuary that’s now home to an energetic community of like-minded souls. In addition to the traditional wellness offerings, Barbara and her daughter Olivia offer tarot card readings and crystal reiki healing sessions.

Remedy Place

In a city with more spas, exercise studios and wellness-food purveyors than you can shake a foam roller at, it can be hard to stand out. But one new arrival is poised to make a big impact. Called Remedy Place, it’s the first “social wellness club” that aims to redefine self-care and transform how people socialize. Founded by concierge wellness doctor Jonathan Leary, the club combines holistic practices, cutting-edge Self-Care Tech-Remedies and group experiences to empower guests to take charge of their health.

Leary, who counts professional athletes and celebrities among his clientele, envisions a space that’s both a wellness destination and a meeting spot for entrepreneurs, CEOs and high-powered executives to relax and collaborate. That’s why his minimalist club features communal suites that can fit five people (perfect for team meetings) as well as individual ice baths and hyperbaric oxygen chambers.

The suites are infused with eucalyptus, lavender and rose oil to soothe skin and scents that stimulate the senses. And the zen-meets-luxury design—which includes warm Venetian plaster walls and soothing 40hz sound frequencies that stimulate gamma brainwave activity—is designed to establish a sense of calm from the moment you step inside.

If you’re looking for a quick fix to beat jet lag, try the Post-LAX Rebalance Antidote package, which includes infrared sauna, ice bath with breath work and hyperbaric oxygen ($80 compared to booking a la carte). Or opt for the 60-minute Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Experience, once only available to pro athletes and in clinical settings but now democratized through Leary’s futuristic machines with plenty of glass to reduce claustrophobic feelings.
