Haute couture fashion week has just begun. From bizarrely constructed floral units to luxury separates in the wildest of fabrications, expect to see spectacular moments that both on and off the catwalk. On the first day, we saw Emma Watson add a streetwear spin to high fashion.
For the Schiaparelli autumn/winter 2022 couture show, actor Eddie Redmayne chose an eye-catching ensemble that mixed luxury and streetwear style. The standout item was a black blazer equipped with power shoulders and monumental lapels from the opening look of Schiaparelli’s spring/summer 2022 couture collection. To balance out the dramatic piece, he threw on a crisp white collared shirt, grey skinny jeans, and a chunky pair of black leather Dr Martens Chelsea boots.
For modern couture clients, it’s more about owning perfectly-cut pieces than making a statement in a voluminous gown. Emma’s juxtaposition of whimsical Schiaparelli with everyday staples brought her couture look down to earth and made it as wearable as it was attention-grabbing.
